Safeguarding and child protection refer to measures to protect the health, well-being, and human rights of individuals, which allow people - especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults - to live free from neglect, and physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
Child Welfare is about the physical, social, and psychological well-being of children, particularly children suffering from the lack of normal parental care and supervision. It deals with such problems as personality development, vocational guidance, and use of leisure time.
Everyone involved in a Language in Action summer programme must be considered in such a way that their safety, well-being and human rights are paramount. Particular attention must be paid to the students in our care.
Students under the age of 18 are legally considered children, and fall under all safeguarding law and policy for minors. Students aged 18 and over fall under the category of Vulnerable Adult due to a number of factors, the primary being their language skills whilst in England. Throughout your time at Language in Action, all Vulnerable Adults and all minors are considered the same for all aspects of Safeguarding, Welfare, and Child Protection policy.
If in any of your onboarding, training, or experiences across the summer programme, you are unsure of procedure or policy, or you are unsure about any situation, feel uneasy or have any doubts about a student, client, or colleague, you must speak to your Safeguarding & Welfare Manager.
Each centre has a Welfare Manager on site in a full-time capacity. This role is assumed by either the Centre Manager or Campus Coordinator. Additionally, all Programme Managers and many Head Office team members are highly trained in Safeguarding and can help in any situation at any time. See our Company Structure for a fully detailed list of Safeguarding and Welfare roles within the company.
Everything you need to know to meet the high standards set out by Language in Action are detailed in the Language in Action Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be accessed via your HR portal at my-malvern.com and is also available from any of your management team.
